Turismo Fuencaliente
Official tourism website of Fuencaliente de La Palma
About
Turismo Fuencaliente is the official tourism website of the Fuencaliente de La Palma town council, and it replaces the previous WordPress site. It is built for people planning a trip and for people already in town with a phone in their hand: what to see, where to stay and eat, where to walk. It has 52 place pages, a directory of 155 local businesses with a page each, its own streamed video and photos by Abián San Gil. The council edits all the content from its own admin panel.
Highlights
Live map: 86 points, 16 routes
The map points come from the place pages themselves: publish a place and it shows up on the map. The 16 routes are traced on foot, section by section, and the map flags any route that is closed.
Three languages, PDF and MP3
All the content is in Spanish, English and German. Every page can be downloaded as a PDF and played as an MP3: 270 of each.
An admin panel for the council
32 admin sections: pages, menu, routes with their line drawn on the map, the business directory, photos and videos. Page bands switch on with a checkbox and lists are reordered by drag and drop.
No third-party requests
No Google Fonts, no CDN, no embedded YouTube. There are two exceptions: analytics, on a self-hosted Matomo, and Mapbox maps, which load only on pages with a map and with telemetry blocked.
Built With
- Go standard library + SQLite: HTML templates rendered on the server, a single binary
- Own JavaScript, no dependencies: the public script went from 222 KB to 7.8 KB; htmx 4 in the admin panel
- Dedicated server with nginx and systemd: strict CSP with no inline scripts, nightly backups and one-command rollback
The Story
The brief was to rebuild the tourism website of a small town without losing anything from the old one. I moved all the content across, translations included, and set up redirects from the old addresses so no link breaks and search rankings stay where they were. As a public administration site, privacy and accessibility were requirements from day one: the site makes no calls to third parties, and every page can be read, downloaded or listened to. The design is custom, and the council runs the admin panel itself.
